David
Payne qualified from Birmingham University in 1970
and has worked in all areas of general practice, establishing
the Selly Park Dental Centre in 1972. He has served on the local
Dental Committees of Birmingham and Sandwell for twenty years.
He has been Chief Dental Officer for a major industrial corporation.
He is currently a member of Remote Air Medical and has assisted
in establishing dental services in developing countries. He
is married with three children and plays cricket for a local
side, and is a former editor of The Queens Medical Magazine.
He is also a Dental Officer for the Cunard shipping line and
serves on the world cruise.

Louis
Mackenzie graduated from Birmingham University in 1990.
He then joined the Selly Park Dental Centre where he primarily
worked for the NHS before developing a private practice in 1995.
Mr Mackenzie's family-based approach is centred on providing
high quality, long-lasting dentistry using the most up-to-date
preventive and aesthetic techniques. Mr Mackenzie is a clinical
lecturer at Birmingham University Dental School where he teaches
final-year students. He is also an honorary clinical assistant
at Birmingham Dental Hospital, and an elected member of the
LDC serving on the advisory committee. In 2001 he completed
a years course in restorative/ cosmetic dentistry at the Manchester
Centre for Dental Education. He is married to Solihull dentist
Gilly Mackenzie and they have two small children. He plays tennis
and golf and is captain of a local cricket team.

Hugo
Whitehead qualified from Birmingham University in 1990.
He has gained extensive experience in general dental practice,
attending many post-graduate courses and fostering a keen interest
in endodontics. He has been a clinical assistant in the oral
surgery department at the Birmingham Dental Hospital for the
last ten years. He is a Member of the Faculty of General Dental
Practitioners and is currently a course tutor for the Midlands
area and advises on the principles of Best Practice.

Paula
Thomas graduated from Birmingham University in 1988
and spent the first year after qualification as a houseman
at The Corbett Hospital. She then went in to general dental
practice providing a high quality of dental care and treatment
in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. In February 2000 she
was invited to join The Selly Park Dental Centre to exercise
her skills and facilitate the school run for her two young
daughters.

Michael
Waplington qualified from Birmingham University in
1988, and spent two years working in Oral Surgery Department
in the West Midlands. He gained his M.Dent Sc in 1995. He has
presented research work at scientific meetings in the UK, Europe,
Asia and the USA, and continues to teach postgraduate endodontic
courses. He is registered on the General Dental Council Specialist
List in Endodontics, and is Honorary Lecturer at the University
of Birmingham Dental School. Michael has recently been elected for the British Endodontic Council.

Nigel
Moss - Specialist in Surgical Dentistry, graduated
from Birmingham University in 1974 and moved into hospital practice
in Oral & Maxillo-facial surgery where he spent the next
6 years gaining surgical experience. Shifting into general practice
he continued to concentrate on surgical and restorative aspects
and started working with tissue-integrated implants in 1988
after training in Switzerland and Scandinavia. He has continued
to develop his interest in implant based restorative treatment
and is equipped to offer a full range of implant options. Nigel
teaches implant techniques in the U.K. and internationally,
and regularly attends major symposia in europe and the U.S.A.
A regular squash player, occasional cricketer, motorcyclist
and oenophile with a love of good jazz.

Pratima
Dhir
Graduated from Dundee University in 1998. After further training
at St. Andrews she was appointed Senior House Officer at Manchester
Hospital. Subsequently she has worked in general practice, developing
a special interest in periodontics (gum conditions). She is
currently taking an advanced post-graduate qualification and
attends numerous courses. She, in common with many of our clinicians
has been co-opted onto the teaching staff of Birmingham University
Dental School. Pratima joined the Selly Park Dental Centre in
2002 and has become a much valued team member. She is a regular
badminton player, a keen swimmer and enjoys traveling and music.

Robert
Slater - Specialist Orthodontic Advisor, qualified
from Birmingham University in 1990 as a Dental Surgeon.
He worked in the hospital service in Maxillo-facial
surgery and restorative dentistry for four years. He
attained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal
College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1994. He then completed
his Orthodontic Specialist Training at Guy's Hospital
graduating in his Master of Science degree from the
University of London and his Membership in Orthodontics
from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in
1997. He spent two years in Brighton working as a Registrar
in Orthodontics at the Children's hospital and as a
Orthodontist in a practice. He has worked in
Specialist Orthodontic Practice in Birmingham since
1997. He is also a part-time clinical lecturer in Orthodontics
at the University of Birmingham.

Roger Pearson trained as a mature student at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield and graduated from Sheffield University in 1980 with honours and distinctions. He had previously pursued a research career in physics and engineering. After several years experience in NHS general practices in Birmingham and Wolverhampton he acquired a long established private practice in Edgbaston in 1987 and has now relocated this practice to Selly Park Dental Centre.
In 1991, Roger joined the staff of Birmingham Dental Hospital and the University School of Dentistry and he currently holds the post of Associate Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Lecturer in Clinical Practice.
Based on his many years of experience in treating patients referred to the Hospital with a wide range of complex restorative problems, Roger was admitted to the General Dental Councils specialist list in prosthodontics when this was established in 2001. He has lectured and organised postgraduate courses for practitioners and, as Head of a clinic preparing dental students for their final qualifying exams, he has taught and examined for many years. Ably assisted by his wife, Susan, who herself has over 30 years of experience in dental nursing and administration, Roger is able to provide a high standard of continuing care to his registered patients and also to those referred to him by their own dentists for specialist treatment.
